Day 01: Airport – Colombo (35 kms / 1 hr)
Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport, meet, assist, and receive a garland welcome. Transfer to hotel in Colombo. At 1430 hrs, commence a sightseeing tour of Colombo. Visit the Fort and Pettah (the hub of commercial activities), Town Hall, Independence Square, Bandaranaike International Convention Hall (BMICH), and the National Museum. Drive through Cinnamon Gardens residential area. Later visit Dehiwala Zoological Gardens and witness the famous elephant circus (starts at 1715 hrs daily). Enroute back to hotel, visit a Buddhist and Hindu temple. Overnight stay in Colombo.
Day 02: Colombo – Anuradhapura – Giritale (206 kms / 4.5 hrs)
After breakfast, depart at 0800 hrs for Anuradhapura. Arrive around 1300 hrs and begin sightseeing. Founded in the 5th century B.C., Anuradhapura showcases the greatest monuments of Sinhala civilization. Highlights include the sacred 2,200-year-old Bodhi Tree, grown from a branch of the tree under which Buddha attained enlightenment. Later, proceed to Giritale. Overnight stay in Giritale.
Day 03: Giritale – Sigiriya – Polonnaruwa – Giritale
After breakfast, proceed at 0800 hrs to Sigiriya. Climb the famous rock fortress, admire the frescoes, and view the mirror wall. In the afternoon, drive to Polonnaruwa for sightseeing. Visit ruins of the Audience Hall, Council Chamber, Royal Citadel, Kumara Pokuna (pond), Royal Pavilion, Siva Dewale, Thuparama, Vatadage Relic House, Kiri Vehera, Gal Vihare (with its striking rock-cut Buddha statues), reservoirs, and other sites. Return to Giritale. Overnight stay in Giritale.
Day 04: Giritale – Dambulla – Kandy
After breakfast, drive at 0800 hrs towards Kandy, the hill capital of Sri Lanka. Enroute visit Dambulla Rock Cave Temple, a vast rock mass converted into a temple by King Valagambahu in the 1st century B.C. Admire 2,000-year-old frescoes and the colossal 14-metre-long recumbent Buddha statue carved in rock. Visit a spice garden at Matale, a wood-carving workshop, and a batik factory. Continue to Kandy and check in around 1430 hrs. In the evening, visit Dalada Maligawa – Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Buddha, followed by a cultural performance of Kandyan dancers. Overnight stay in Kandy.
Day 05: Kandy – Pinnawala – Colombo
Morning sightseeing tour of Kandy. Visit Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, renowned for exotic flora and the Orchid House. Drive around Upper Lake and the University Campus, known for traditional Sinhalese architecture. Explore the marketplace and arts & crafts center. Return to hotel for checkout at 1300 hrs. Proceed to Colombo, enroute visiting Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage to witness feeding (including baby elephants) and bathing of elephants. Continue to Colombo. Overnight stay in Colombo.
Day 06: Colombo – Departure
Morning transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
